5 African Presidents Who Do Not Have a College Degree

How much higher education is required to make a good president? A doctorate? A master’s degree? Or perhaps none at all. Are there any African heads of government without a standard higher education degree?

In this countdown, Face2Face Africa Contributor Charles Ayitey takes a look at the educational qualifications of Africa’s serving presidents by exploring whether the absence of a college degree could impede political progress toward the No. 1 job in a country.

In the end, he came up with a compelling list of not less than five African presidents who did not need to have a higher education to get the nod to lead their country. Their stories are perhaps proof that leadership is more about character than a stack of academic qualifications.
