The councilwoman from the city of Niterói and a close friend of Franco’s has received a number of threats since she took office back in 2016, after receiving the most votes for city council for the city of Niterói.

The 33-year-old is running for a spot in Brazil’s national congress on a platform that supports the rights of blacks, favela dwellers and LGBTQ people. A History professor with a Master’s degree in Social Service, Talíria began her militancy at the time she taught at the pré-vestibular (college entrance exam prep course) in north zone Rio de Janeiro. That is where she met Marielle and the two realized they had the same agendas.
