A Jamaican man, who says he has been growing his dreadlocks for over 40 years, has earned the names “Rasta Rapunzel” and “the real-life Rapunzel” after a social media video showed him standing on a roof to show the length of his natural hair.

The video of the man letting his dreadlocks down and standing on the roof was shared on an Instagram account with the username @jamaicaviralofficial, per the New York Post. And though the length of his hair wasn’t disclosed, the locks go beyond his feet.

Bystanders who watched the display reacted in awe. “You haven’t seen any hair like this,” a bystander said. “A real locks this.” The top of the man’s hair is grey while the locks below transform to brown and black colors.

“Love how you can see them lighten as they aged & more gray hair grew,” an Instagram user commented. “My God, how beautiful.” “Wow… just WOW. Look how magnificent these locs are!!! My God how beautiful,” another user added.

As previously reported by Face2Face Africa, Asha Mandela currently holds the Guinness World Record for the longest locks. The Florida woman and native of Trinidad and Tobago has also similarly earned the name “Black Rapunzel” because, since 2008, she has been holding the Guinness World Record for “World’s Longest Dreadlocks.”

The length of Mandela’s locks stands at 19 feet, 6.5 inches, and weighs 42 pounds. Some people who saw the Jamaican man’s locks, however, argued Mandela could lose the record to him.

“That has to be a World Record for longest Dreads,” a hair enthusiast said. “Someone needs to contact the Guinness Book of Records and have him entered before he dies,” another added.

A spokesperson for the Guinness World Records also told the New York Post that “there is no current record holder for the longest natural locks on a living person (male).”
