Kamala Harris’ stepdaughter Ella Emhoff took to social media to debunk rumors about being hospitalized for having a mental breakdown over the outcome of the 2024 presidential election. Per E! News, it seemed Ella looked distraught when she initially shared her thoughts about Trump’s re-election.

But she made it clear the rumors about her hospitalization were untrue. “Ok I’m just gonna go out and say it,” she shared on her Instagram story on November 9. “There’s a rumor about me having a mental breakdown and getting checked into a hospital. Not true. Also f–k you if you’re out there spreading that.”

“There’s nothing wrong with showing emotion and crying,” she added. “Anyone who says there is probably needs a good cry.”

Ella, who shared the post with a photo of herself and her dog, also emphatically stated that she was not ashamed of admitting she had mental health struggles. “I’ve struggled with my mental health my whole life and I’m not ashamed of it,” she wrote. “I’ve literally just been here playing fetch with Jerry [her dog].”

Ella’s biological mother, Kerstin Emhoff, also offered words of support to her daughter in a post on X. “Leave my kids alone!!!!” Kerstin wrote. “Ella is doing great and spending a lovely day with her mom! Having the ability to show your emotions is something we should all hope for. It’s ok to not feel great right now. We aren’t letting anyone break out family down.”

Ella clearing the air about her mental health status came after she shared words of encouragement to people who may have been disappointed with the outcome of the election.

“We are all gonna get through this,” she shared alongside a photo of herself watching Harris delivering her concession speech, E! News reported. “It just f–king hurts like a b—h right now and that’s ok.”

“The fight doesn’t stop now,” she added. “Just please check in on your people right now. This is the time to organize, mobilize and make a difference in your communities big or small.”
