Keeana Barber, CEO and founder of WDB Marketing, made history by becoming the first Black woman to own a Signarama franchise on Chicago’s iconic Michigan Avenue.

The downtown location, which celebrated its grand opening recently, is Barber’s second Signarama store, following the success of her South Holland branch. This milestone marks a significant achievement in her career as a Black entrepreneur in the marketing and signage industries.

The grand opening event featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony with appearances by Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, Ald. Pat Dowell and Arielle Johnson, CEO of the Business Leadership Council. Local business owners, community leaders, and media gathered to recognize Barber’s accomplishment and the importance of her presence on Michigan Avenue, a thoroughfare synonymous with the city’s economic and cultural influence.

“I am incredibly honored to bring Signarama to Michigan Avenue,” Barber said. “This isn’t just about expanding my business; it’s about showing what’s possible for women of color and making an indelible mark on a city that has supported me.”

Barber’s entrepreneurial journey began in 2006 when she launched WDB Marketing, a full-service agency specializing in branding, graphic design, printing and promotional services. Over the years, Barber has built a reputation for innovation and excellence, helping small and medium-sized businesses grow through her creative and strategic approach. Her work has established WDB Marketing as a vital resource for entrepreneurs seeking to enhance their brand visibility and market presence.

The new Signarama location will offer a wide range of customized signage solutions, including monument signs, vehicle graphics, banners, wall murals and wayfinding signage. These services aim to help local businesses stand out in Chicago’s competitive market and attract more customers. Additionally, Barber’s agency will continue to provide its hallmark marketing services, including specialty collateral, promotional products and digital marketing solutions.

The grand opening was not only a showcase of Signarama’s state-of-the-art technology but also a celebration of Barber’s hard work and vision. As a pioneer in both the marketing and signage fields, Barber hopes her success will inspire other Black entrepreneurs, particularly women, to pursue their business dreams.

Barber’s achievement comes at a time when Black women entrepreneurs are the fastest-growing demographic of business owners in the United States, yet they often face significant barriers to success, including limited access to capital and resources. Her presence on Michigan Avenue is a testament to her resilience and determination and serves as a beacon of hope for other aspiring business owners.

“It was my honor to welcome WDB Marketing to Chicago this weekend for its grand opening in the South Loop,” said Mayor Johnson during the event. “Owner Keeana Barber represents what’s possible when we invest in Black women-owned businesses.”

Barber’s influence extends beyond her business ventures. She is also actively involved in the community, providing mentorship and support to young entrepreneurs through various initiatives. Her commitment to giving back is a cornerstone of her leadership style and a reflection of her belief in the importance of empowering the next generation of business leaders.

As Barber continues to build her legacy, her latest venture on Michigan Avenue stands as a powerful symbol of progress and opportunity. The new Signarama location not only enhances the city’s business landscape but also highlights the potential for more diverse representation in Chicago’s entrepreneurial community. For Barber, it’s about more than just business; it’s about creating a lasting impact that will inspire and uplift others.

With her determination, entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to her community, Keeana Barber is setting a new standard for what is possible in the world of business. As she continues to expand her reach, her story serves as a reminder of the power of perseverance and the importance of supporting and investing in Black women entrepreneurs.
