Kenya Harlequins rugby club has suspended Henry Wanyama pending investigations into rape allegations made against him and another player.

The Kenya Rugby Union and Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions are investigating Wanyama and Alex Olaba after a singer Wendy Kemunto accused them of rape.

The allegations caused an uproar on social media with users calling for justice for Kemunto using the #justiceforKemunto hashtag. Kenya Harlequins Chairman responded in a letter stating that the club has a zero-tolerance policy on any form of sexual harassment and called for caution as authorities investigated the matter.

Upon suspending Wanyama, the club chairperson Mike Lucas said the club has left the matter to the police.

“We as a club frown upon any matters that relate to harassment in any form. However, we will not go crucify anyone on social media, we have left the matter to the authorities now. We will then make a ruling on what will happen and what we will do next after the authorities are done with the matter,” he said to NTV.
