Jerry John Rawlings loved his motorbike rides, soccer and Michael Jackson.
A stout, fairly handsome and brutally authoritarian man, Rawlings is a man of many parts. He is the only leader in Ghana’s history to have been a military and democratic leader.
Owing to the exaggerated masculinity of the military, Rawlings loved motorbikes that gave off an image of a sporty man. He supports the soccer club Hearts of Oak and struck an unlikely friendship with popstar Michael Jackson.
