Zeinab Abdi, a Louisville mother, is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly beating her 6-year-old daughter with a hammer and leaving her in critical condition.
On June 19, at approximately 12:45 p.m., Louisville Metro Police responded to a disturbance in the Park Duvalle area. When authorities arrived on the scene, they discovered a 6-year-old girl with severe blunt force injuries to her head, according to Wave. Abdi was arrested on the spot.

According to the arrest slip, the 40-year-old mother admitted to LMPD that she “frequently becomes extremely angry and has difficulty controlling herself.” Abdi also told police that she became enraged and hit her daughter in the head with a hammer an unknown number of times.
The suspect’s son said to LMPD that his mother told him, “Let me finish her,” as she was trying to get back to the victim after the incident while he had grabbed her.
Abdi entered a not guilty plea when she was brought in court on June 21 on charges of attempted murder and domestic violence. She was assigned a public defender, and the judge set her bond.
“A very vulnerable victim who was presented to the hospital with multiple skull fractures and brain bleeds, it’s the county’s motion to set the bond at $500,000,” the judge said, according to WDRB.
John Bradley, a spokesman for the Louisville Metro Police Department, told the publication that the child was transferred to Norton Children’s Hospital, where she appeared to be in serious condition, after she was found unconscious with head injury. The LMPD’s Homicide Unit is looking into the case because of the child’s severe injuries.
Neighbors said they were in shock as first responders rushed to the residence on the afternoon of the tragic incident.
“My little cousin told me to look behind me, and there’s like six, seven police cars,” neighbor Janis Lindsay told WDRB. “Two of those little ambulance vans, then the crime lab.”
“Yeah, she told him let her finish ’em, like, that’s sick. That’s real sick,” Lindsay continued. “You don’t do kids like that. Give them a whipping and put them in timeout, but to beat them with a hammer, that’s overboard. That’s you wanted to kill that baby.”
Meanwhile, the judge ordered Abdi not to make contact with any minors. She is expected to appear in court again on June 30.
