Amaka Osakwe was a breathe of fresh air as a finalist in the 2014 LVMHPrize Young Fashion Designer Competition. Although she didn’t make it to the next round we absolutely love her Maki Oh Fall 2014 Ready to Wear collection.
Each piece of clothing plays a role in the story Osakwe decides to tell to with every collection. This story expresses the lyrics of a woman in the mirror saying “Tell me I’m the only one, even if you choke.“ The clothing is a story of different emotions that a woman may feel while looking at her reflection such as mad, happy, self-love, anti-love and any other emotion.
Osakwe stayed true to her Nigerian aesthetic through the use of textiles and aso-oke materials with tie and dyed fabrics. Our most loved touch was the print of the lyrics in Yoruba on the wrap skirt.
