A man was sentenced to 143 years in prison after he committed a host of crimes including pointing a gun at a Burger King employee who refused to accept drugs for payment and also shooting at other people.
Per The Associated Press, the news of Eugene Robertson’s prison sentence was announced by prosecutors on Thursday, August 15. Robertson is said to have committed the crimes in Aurora, Denver, on October 17, 2022, and the Burger King confrontation was the preceding incident.
Robertson was sentenced after a jury found him guilty of eight counts of attempted murder and nine other crimes. “We consider this 143-year sentence justice for the multiple victims he put in fear that night. Jurors recognized the severity of the crimes this defendant committed. We believe the judge imposed an appropriate sentence,” Eric Ross, a spokesperson for 18th Judicial District Attorney John Kellner, said.

Prosecutors said Robertson went to a nearby convenience store after the Burger King incident, adding that he pointed a gun at a clerk when he entered. While in the store, Robertson noticed a surveillance video camera system had been installed in the facility. He is said to have shot at the screen before making his way out. He also shot at two people who were in the parking lot, authorities said.
A witness who spoke to authorities said it appeared “something was off” about Robertson, adding that he was “talking about God” and in possession of a Bible that had a purple cover, The Associated Press reported.
Prosecutors also said Robertson’s friend later reported him to authorities after he opened fire when she declined to open her apartment door. Robertson’s friend and several people were in the apartment at the time.
Authorities said Robertson was later arrested at the woman’s apartment complex.
