Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese is having a standout WNBA season, shattering records and dominating the headlines. Her latest achievement? Setting a new league record for historic double-doubles.
Despite an 86-68 loss to the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday, August 18, Reese, 22, made WNBA history, as reported by PEOPLE. By securing her fourth consecutive double-double, Reese became the fastest player in league history to reach 20 double-doubles, in just 27 games.
The fast-rising star is averaging 13.6 points and 12.3 rebounds on 39.8% shooting this season. Since being drafted by the Chicago Sky in April 2024, the former LSU star has had a record-breaking rookie season, becoming the first in WNBA history to record a triple-double.
Aside from this, Reese joined the growing 3-on-3 basketball league. On July 24, the Unrivaled basketball league officially announced via Instagram that Chicago Sky rookie Reese has joined their ranks. “The Barbie is Unrivaled,” read the caption for Unrivaled and Reese’s joint post. “10/30.”
Reese is now the 10th WNBA player to join the Unrivaled basketball league, created by Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart.
The league’s growing roster also features stars like Arike Ogunbowale, Jewell Loyd, Kelsey Plum, Rhyne Howard, Kahleah Cooper, and Jackie Young. An additional 20 players are expected to join in the coming months.
The Chicago Sky is in a difficult spot with a 1-2 record since the break but Reese continues to shine for the team.
