Meet four of Africa's dynamic female playwrights

Mfonsio Udofia

Mfonsio Udofia’s parents hail from Nigeria, but she grew up in the U.S. and attending Wellesley College. She is receiving her MFA from the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco.

Udofia is known for her ongoing Ufot Cycle, which has already featured six plays, with the sixth Her Portmanteau being the latest.

She also works with Oregon Shakespeare Festival as a part of its Play On program, where she is translating Othello into a more modern dialect. Her plays, ‘Sojourners’, ‘runboyrun’, ‘Her Portmanteau’, and ‘In Old Age’ have been seen at the American Conservatory Theater.
