On December 8, 2018, the most coveted beauty pageant in the world, Miss World 2018, will take place in China where the 2017 winner, Manushi Chhillar of India, will crown her successor.

Since November 9, 2018, the 118 beauty queens from around the world gathered in China competing for points to get them into the fast track selection at the main event in the Chinese city of Sanya.

The pageant is in its 68th year and has been running successfully since 1957. The first black woman to be crowned Miss World is Jennifer Hosten who won the pageant in 1970. In 2001, the first African woman to win was Agbani Darego from Nigeria.

Since 2001, a black woman has not won the crown and they only come second or third but. However, many fingers are crossed that the 2018 queen will be from Africa or the Caribbean.

Public voting was opened by the Miss World organisation on November 20 for people to register and vote for their favourite contestants.

14 countries are representing the Caribbean at this year’s event and below are their profiles as published by the Miss World organisation.
