Charles Lewis Reason

Charles Lewis Reason’s early upbringing hinged on the value of education. His tenure as a member of the Manual Labour School saw many Black children gaining access to basic education. He was a gifted mathematician. He started teaching at 14 at New York City high schools. He became a professor of literature and language at the Central College in McGrawville, New York, according to Colored Conventions. He partnered with Charles Ray to establish the Society for the Promotion of Education among Colored Children.
