Meet the black female entrepreneurs shaking up Silicon Valley

Jean Brownill

She is the founder and CEO of Sweeten, an online service that helps homeowners and small businesses to find and manage the best vetted general contractors for major renovation projects. More than $1 billion in residential and commercial construction projects have flowed through the Sweeten platform, which has been described as the “Best Contractor Locator” and “The Renovation Game-Changer”. In 2015, Jean was one of only 11 African American female entrepreneurs to raise more than $1 million in venture capital. She has since pitched 350 investors, built meaningful connections with many businessmen, particularly, white businessmen who hitherto were out of reach.
