Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins

She is shaking up Silicon Valley with her California-based start-up, Promise, which is working on keeping people, largely poor or of colour – out of jail who don’t need to be there. The social justice advocate and businesswoman secured $12 million and the confidence of venture capitalists, including First Round Capital and Jay-Z’s Roc Nation.
