Michelle invites Barack to read on her story time series ‘Mondays with Michelle Obama’

Michelle Obama invited a very special guest to assist her to read on this week’s episode of her popular Mondays with Michelle Obama reading initiative.

The collaborative project, which is between the former first lady, PBS KIDS and Penguin Random House, sees her read aloud a children’s book every Monday on social media in an effort to assist kids in practicing their reading while also relieving some stress off parents and caretakers during this lockdown period.

Over the past couple of weeks, Michelle has enthusiastically read books including The Gruffalo, There’s a Dragon in Your Book, Miss Maple’s Seeds, among others. For this week, however, Michelle gave viewers an extra treat by reading not one, but two books.

But that wasn’t just it.

She invited her husband and former President Barack Obama to assist her. After reading Giraffe Problems during the live stream, her husband joined her to read The Bear Ate Your Sandwich together. The couple, who are proud parents of two beautiful daughters, took turns reading the book, one page after the other.

The initiative, which kicked off last month and was scheduled to end on May 11, has been extended by another two weeks as a result of its success.

Announcing the initiative, Michelle said: “As a little kid, I loved to read aloud. And when I became a parent, I found such joy in sharing the magic of storytelling with my own children—and then later, as First Lady, with kids everywhere. At this time when so many families are under so much stress, I’m excited to give kids a chance to practice their reading and hear some wonderful stories (and to give parents and caretakers a much-needed break).”

She is set to read Oh, the Places You’ll Go! and Can I Be Your Dog? next week.
