British professional Mixed Martial Arts fighter, Jahreau Shepherd, has been stabbed to death in South London, according to his manager. The tragic incident occurred on Black Prince Estate Kennington late Saturday, BBC reported.
Nicknamed ‘Nightmare’, the Welterweight fighter was reportedly on his way to attend his 30th birthday party when he was killed. Eyewitnesses said paramedics tried to save him, with his mother shouting, “please keep going, please save my baby.”
Shepherd was regarded as a rising star, who was 6-2 in his career with titles in both CEA and UCMMA. According to Braziller, he last fought in February, winning a unanimous decision over Quinten DeVraught at Contenders Norwich 29.
While mourners continue to pay tribute, the Police also say a 26-year old man was also stabbed in the same attack.
Shepherd’s promoter, Contenders MMA in a statement described him as “a hugely talented and great fun to be around.”
“A big personality with a high smile and infectious laugh” the statement noted, adding, “Inside the cage, he was destined for the top – a champion in three different organizations with heavy hands and a warrior’s heart.”
“He lived and breathed fighting,” his cousin, Tanisha Shepherd told BBC. “He was so looking forward to the gym opening again after the lockdown and was lining up for a fight. He had everything to live for. He helped keep the young people on the straight and narrow and was a role model.”
