Kendra Small, a mother of a 10-month-old child, is demanding justice and answers after claiming that she picked up her child from childcare with a black eye and scratches all over her face.
The Toledo woman expressed her determination to hold someone accountable despite not receiving a clear explanation for her child’s facial damage.
She told WTVG: “It looked like she got jumped; she’s 10 months old; she didn’t deserve that. She can’t protect herself and I know that my baby was crying for me I know she was.”
Small said that she was surprised to see her daughter in that state when she picked her up from the childcare center a few hours after she had left her.
“I seen up to at least up to 23 scratches, deep wounds, she was bleeding, she had oil already on her face, it was horrible,” Small recounted.
Emma Anderson, according to the Ohio Department of Children and Youth, is a certified childcare provider who works out of her own home. Inspection records show that the child care service is often partially compliant.
According to Smalls, she was told the cuts occurred this way: “She was sitting right here, Kenslie was in the seat, and a little girl clawed her down.”

However, the mother stated that this did not make sense.
“My baby looks like she got tic-tac-toe across her head,” Small said. “She has skin missing on her cheek, on her eye, her eye is black, she got skin missing right here, it’s a lot.”
Small reported the incident to the police and informed child services after taking her daughter to the hospital.
The mother of two, who has a son with autism, expressed that she is only interested in finding out what happened to her daughter.
“My baby was screaming and crying, she was attacked,” Small said. “Whether it was from a kid, a 10-year-old, adult. I don’t know, but she was attacked and nobody called me, she wanted her mom.”
The childcare center has not yet responded to questions about the situation.
