The ranking was announced on March 6, 2018, by the ACI in its 2017 Airport Service Quality (ASQ) programme which is based on a passenger satisfaction survey of airports in several countries, says ACI.

They measure passengers’ views of 34 key performance indicators. 74% of the world’s top 100 busiest airports are part of the ASQ network which delivers 600,000 individual surveys per year in 42 languages in 84 countries.

The programme served 343 airports in 2017 and over half of the world’s 7.7 billion travellers passed through an ASQ airport.

Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport was adjudged the most improved airport in Africa.

The best airports will be awarded at a ceremony in Halifax, Canada in September 2018, hosted by Halifax International Airport Authority. The awards will be on the sidelines of the inaugural ACI Customer Excellence Global Summit.

ACI is a trade association of the world’s airports, founded in 1991 with the objective of fostering cooperation among its member airports and other partners in world aviation.

African countries recently launched the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) to transform intra-African air travel, lower prices and increase connectivity. Only 23 out of the 55 AU members are signatories to SAATM.
