A Nigerian evangelist is being investigated by police after he allegedly offered to show people a gate leading to heaven if they paid him. According to BBC, Pastor Ade Abraham claimed the supposed heaven’s gate was located in south-western Nigeria.
One of the pastor’s followers who paid the 310,000 naira ($750; £600) fee required to see the gate in question reported him to the police. Pastor Ade Abraham had claimed that heaven’s gate was in Araromi-Ugbeshi town in Ekiti State.
The man of God, who also goes by the name Noah Abraham, told the news outlet that he had indeed spoken about the supposed gate to heaven, and he got to know about it through a revelation from “the God he serves.” He also added that the revelation was to test the faith of his congregants. He, however, claimed he was yet to receive any payment.
The Ekiti State police have since opened an investigation after taking written statements from Pastor Ade Abraham’s church members. His actions were also condemned by the Christian Association of Nigeria in a statement.
The pastor currently has a church camp in Ekiti state. The parishioner who reported him to the police was in the camp, BBC reported. And though he has since moved back to his home in Kaduna, his wife remains in the camp as she declined to return with him because the “rapture” would soon unfold.
Pastor Ade Abraham also recently made the news after a viral video showed him asking his congregants to tell their relatives abroad to send money to his church.
