Nigerian singer, Yemi Alade has made history as the first African female artiste to hit one million subscribers on video streaming platform, YouTube.

This comes months after the award-winning singer became the second Nigerian artist to hit hundred million views on YouTube for the song, ‘Johnny.’

The songstress celebrated the latest development on her Instagram page.

“God is the GREATEST, started this journey six years ago. Thanks to everyone streaming/watching my videos and music. God bless us all,” she wrote.

Alade, with this feat, joins other music stars who have over one million subscribers, including Davido (1.5 million), Diamond Platnumz (2.1 million) and the defunct P-Square (1.2 million).

Alade is one of the biggest stars on the African continent, treating fans of her music to hit after hit.

In 2015, she was nominated for Best International Act: Africa at the BET awards, alongside other giants of the African music industry like Stonebwoy of Ghana, Aka of South Africa, Fally Ipupa of DR Congo, Sarkodie of Ghana, Sauti Sol of Kenya, The Soil of South Africa and WizKid of Nigeria.

Just two months after the visuals of her hit song “Johnny” was released on Vevo on YouTube, it reached a whopping one million views, showing that Alade was here to stay.

Now, the video has over 105 million views, holding the title for most watched Nigerian video on the video sharing platform. That was not the end, as she continued to put out one great song after the other.

She was awarded ‘Best African Female’ at the 2015 and 2016 MTV Awards and, recently, ‘Best Performer’ at the 2018 edition. She has received several awards and nominations, including MTV African Music, African Music Video awards, City people Entertainment, MOBO, YEM and Eloy awards.

Earlier in May this year, she made history as the first Nigerian female afro pop singer to clock 7 million followers on Instagram, beating the likes of Tiwa Savage and DJ Cuppy to the mark.

In April this year, she released her collaboration with Grammy award-winning American rapper Rick Ross on a remix of her hit song “Oh my gosh” which is still receiving airplay.

Alade seems poised to take the African music industry by storm, and the numbers prove she is more than capable.
