The Los Angeles intersection of Crenshaw Boulevard and Slauson Avenue will be named in honor of Nipsey Hussle, adding to another posthumous honor the deceased Eritrean-American rapper will soon receive.

Per XXL, the location in question will be named Nipsey Hussle Square, and a ceremony for the sign dedication is scheduled to take place on February 28. Nipsey is from South Los Angeles.

Besides Nipsey’s brother, Blacc Sam, other notable people to attend the event include L.A. City Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson, Councilwoman Heather Hutt, and California State Assemblyman Isaac Bryan.

“The ceremony will commemorate Nipsey Hussle’s cultural influence, entrepreneurial vision, and lasting contributions to the Crenshaw community,” a press release for the event said.

The location in question is where Nipsey’s Marathon Clothing store was previously situated. The spot is currently the headquarters for the Neighborhood Nip Foundation.

As previously reported by Face2Face Africa, Nipsey, whose real name is Ermias Joseph Asghedom, was shot outside his Marathon Clothing store on March 31, 2019. Eric Holder Jr., the man convicted of fatally shooting the Victory Lap rapper, was sentenced to 60 years to life in prison in February 2023.

Holder was found guilty of first-degree murder in July 2022 for killing Nipsey outside the latter’s South Los Angeles clothing store.

Superior Court Judge H. Clay Jacke gave Holder’s sentence in a Los Angeles courtroom after hearing from one of Nipsey’s friends and reading a letter from Holder’s father. Holder was also found guilty of two counts of attempted voluntary manslaughter after two others were injured in the shooting.

At the start of his trial in June 2022, prosecutors told the court that Holder’s actions were planned and premeditated. Deputy District Attorney John McKinney alleged that Holder was well aware he was going to take the rapper’s life. Nipsey was struck at least ten times, McKinney said, adding that Holder also kicked the rapper’s head before fleeing the scene.

Nipsey was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2022.
