Nipsey Hussle’s family still in legal battle with his ex over custody of his daughter, his brother reveals

Following the 2019 shooting death of Nipsey Hussle, his brother Sam Asghedom legally became the administrator of the late rapper’s estate. And though Asghedom has since overseen matters such as settling debts, disbursing funds, and closing any deals, he revealed in his recent court report that only one pending issue is preventing the closure of his late brother’s probate case, Radar Online reported.

In the report, Asghedom, who goes by the moniker Blacc Sam, said that his late brother’s ex, Tanisha Foster, wants legal custody of her and Hussle’s 13-year-old daughter, Emani. In the wake of Hussle’s death, his family was granted guardianship of Emani after filing a court petition. In the petition, the family claimed Emani’s mother was unfit to be a parent and as such, the 13-year-old would be better off with them. 

Emani and her younger step-brother, Kross, are the two beneficiaries of their late father’s estate. The two siblings should get about $2 million of Hussle’s fortune. And though Asghedom said they have arranged for a mediation on the custody matter, he said they are yet to reach a decision. 

At the beginning of the year, Tanisha petitioned the court to annul the current guardianship arrangement, per Radar Online. She claimed that she consented to that guardianship after Hussle’s death as a result of her “own financial limitations; her desire to maintain the standard of living and family contact the minor had experienced with the paternal family prior to her father’s death; and upon the verbal assurances that each of them would act in the best interests of Emani.”

But Tanisha alleged that shortly after reaching the guardianship agreement, Hussle’s family began “using their financial position and influence to disregard their priorities by controlling the desires of Emani and Tanisha by withholding financial assistance and reducing visitation.” Therefore, she petitioned the court to grant her custody of Emani and get a “neutral experience financial planner” to oversee her daughter’s inheritance. 

“There are no circumstances or events in my life that would disqualify me for regaining my exclusive role as Emani’s parent. There is no longer any need for guardianship. Emani routinely asks me when are she and I going to be able to live together. She longs to be with me as her mother. I am begging the court to terminate the existing guardianship,” she claimed.

The judge is yet to make a decision on the case. In 2020, TMZ reported that Hussle’s estate was appraised at $4.1 million.

Born Ermias Davidson Asghedom to an Eritrean father and an African-American mother, Nipsey Hussle was fatally shot multiple times in front of his Marathon Clothing store on March 31, 2019. The man accused of killing him, Eric Holder, was convicted of his murder in July.

And speaking at the August ceremony honoring Hussle with a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Hussle’s late grandmother, Margaret Boutte, said she was praying for her grandson’s killer. 

“I’m praying for him too,” she said. “I hope he does not get killed in custody. Have enough time to ask God for forgiveness. I’m Catholic, I do believe in prayer, and I’m praying for him. It was a young, ignorant situation, and I’m hoping he’s sorry for what he did.”
