Courtney Clenney, the OnlyFans model who allegedly stabbed her Nigerian-American boyfriend to death during a domestic dispute at their luxury apartment in Miami, was on Wednesday arrested and charged in connection with his killing.
According to the Miami Herald, Clenney’s lawyer had claimed the accused model fatally stabbed Christian “Toby” Obumseli in self-defense following the April 2022 incident. The 26-year-old, who was arrested in Hawaii, will be processed for extradition to Miami-Dade to stand trial.
The accused model has since been charged with second-degree murder with a deadly weapon. Clenney’s lawyer, Frank Prieto, said the model had been at a rehabilitation center in Hawaii where she was being treated for substance abuse and post-traumatic stress disorder.
“I’m completely shocked, especially since we were cooperating with the investigation and offered to voluntarily surrender her if she were charged,” said Prieto. “We look forward to clearing her name in court.”
Clenney’s arrest comes four months after authorities launched an investigation into the fatal incident. And though Clenney’s attorney claimed she acted in self-defense, Obumseli’s family said they were convinced he did not pose a threat and demanded her arrest.
As reported by Face2Face Africa, the fatal April 3 incident occurred at an apartment the couple was staying. Clenney called the police to the apartment building after the stabbing. And officers who responded to the scene found Obumseli, 27, with a stab wound on the neck. He later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.
Friends of the couple reportedly told an ABC affiliate that the two usually got into serious arguments. “We’ve seen her hit him,” Ashley Vaughn said. “I’ve never seen him hit her.”
Close friends also said the deceased man had recently moved in with his girlfriend, and the two were staying at the One Paraiso apartment building in Edgewater, Miami. The couple’s neighbors said Clenney and Obumseli usually got into domestic disputes that frequently required local police intervention.
