Authorities in Florida have charged a 44-year-old man who allegedly drew an assault rifle on a Black landscaper during an altercation over parking.

According to ABC Action News, the accused, identified as David H. Berry, issued threats to the landscraper while he was working in a neighborhood in Clearwater on July 7, police said. Berry was armed with an assault rifle at the time of the confrontation.

The accused man is said to have confronted the landscraper after he alleged the Black man had blocked his driveway. Police said the altercation was filmed.

“If the suspect had a problem with how someone was parking, he should have called the police and let us handle it,” Clearwater Police Chief Slaughter said. “You don’t arm yourself with an assault rifle and threaten someone over something so trivial.”

Authorities also obtained a risk protection order that was used to confiscate Berry’s weapons. The accused man has since been charged with aggravated assault.

Berry, who was arrested on Friday, was released hours later after he posted a $5,000 bond, Tampa Bay Times reported.
