Ntozake Shange
Tyler Perry’s film, For Colored Girls, was inspired by Ntozake Shange’s For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/ When The Rainbow is Enuff.
That work, which she called a ‘choreopoem’, was the most exemplary of Shange’s poems that explored alienation, depression and conflicts of identity.
Shange succeeded in speaking to the individual while others were more attracted to bigger topics concerning communities.
