Allyson Felix, an 11-time Olympic medalist, is making history again with her latest collaboration. Just in time for the Paris Summer Olympics of 2024, the 38-year-old athlete and Pampers collaborated to launch the first-ever Olympic Village nursery.
A statement from the International Olympic Committee explains that athletes and their children at the Olympic and Paralympic Village will receive free services and merchandise from the nursery.
The organization noted, “The Olympic Village nursery will offer access to high-quality nappies and wipes while also providing a space for playtime and family bonding.”
Felix, the most decorated woman in Olympic track and field history and a mom of two, told NBC Olympics, “It was top of mind to support athletes who are mothers. It’s a space where families can get away from it all and have some of the comforts of home. They can have playtime and have places to feed their babies.”
According to 11 Alive, Felix announced on social media in April that she had given birth to her second child, a boy named Trey, following a “traumatic and life-threatening delivery” caused by severe preeclampsia.
“My advocacy work around black maternal health will continue because every woman of color deserves to have the full experience of joy in birth, instead of the fear we are accustomed to,” she said.
Felix and her spouse Kenneth Ferguson have a 5-year-old daughter named Camryn. Per WBLS, even after the 38-year-old expressed interest in expanding her family in 2018, juggling motherhood and athletics proved to be challenging due to postpartum recovery issues, the expense of daycare, and the absence of mom-and-child-friendly areas at the Olympics.
Upon Felix’s retirement in 2022, she dedicated her career to demonstrating to other mothers that they could excel in both roles and that she would be there to support them.
The nursery will operate every day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and be located in the Olympic Village Plaza.
