Navel piercings were known to be reserved for the Pharaoh only in ancient Egypt. If any other person was seen with this form of piercing the person could be killed. In those times, navels were likened to the genitals of women and hence women were not allowed to show them off. Interestingly, the bikini revolution is here and many women of various cultures have navel piercings.
