Princess Korkor Boateng makes history as Ghana’s youngest Chartered Accountant at age 18

Princess Korkor Boateng is yet to receive an undergraduate degree from the University of Ghana, but the 18-year-old final-year student has already written her name in the history books as she recently became Ghana’s youngest Chartered Accountant.

According to a statement from the university, Princess attained the academic feat after she passed her qualifying examinations in April and was inducted the following month. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration at the University of Ghana after she gained admission at the age of 14.

In an interview with the University’s Public Affairs Media team, Princess said, juggling between the professional course and her undergraduate course wasn’t easy, as she had to study both programs simultaneously. However, she noted that pursuing both courses at the same time was beneficial, as they are intertwined. 

The 18-year-old also said being in class with older colleagues did not make her feel intimidated, as they rather used their work experiences to help explain practical concepts to her. Princess credited her mother, a professional Accountant, for inspiring her, adding that she was also motivated by the urge to be financially independent. 

“As I have said consistently, UGBS is a place that nurtures talents, in Korkor’s case she’s the youngest but there are others that have gone through our programs and have come out successfully in their professional associations, many of them winning awards, not only for being young people, but also for being the best in Ghana in particular areas,” the Dean of the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), Professor Justice Bawole, said.

The President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG), Ms. Sena Dake, also praised Princess for reaching this academic milestone. “The amazing thing this April 2023 is that Princess Korkor Boateng has set a record as the 60th Anniversary Youngest Achiever and has completed the qualifying examination at age 18. The first time ever, beating the record of an earlier Lady Achiever, Hannah Ann Enyan, who finished at age 19 in 2021.” 

“Our Ladies are doing very well, and we are very proud of them”, Ms. Dake added.

With regard to what she intends to do after she’s done with college, Princess said she wants to look into avenues including accounting-related software development. The 18-year-old also said her favorite life quote is,  “Life is a series of tiny miracles.”
