Several times they tried, most of the time they escaped; these African leaders survived deadly assassination attempts

Abdullahi Yussuf Ahmed – Somalia

Former Somali leader, Abdullahi Yussuf Ahmed was the President of Somalia between 2004 and 2008. He survived several attempts on his life including the 17 September 2006 attempt where a suicide car bomber smashed his vehicle outside the National Parliament in Baidoa.

That attack killed four of his bodyguards as well as his brother. He also survived an ensuing gun battle after the attack.
