Snoop Dogg has credited the survival of his marriage to his wife Shante Broadus to the intervention of Charlie Wilson. During Charlie Wilson’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, Snoop, 52, delivered a heartfelt speech, expressing gratitude to Wilson for convincing him not to jeopardize his relationship.

“This man right here means the world to me, not just musically but personally, especially when it comes to me and my wife because there were certain phases in my life where I felt like, ‘I should be by myself, I should do this alone,’” Snoop said.

He said the 71-year-old music icon was the only person courageous enough to advise him “Don’t blow a good thing. Get back home. You got the greatest woman in the world. You have a family.”

The “Gin and Juice” rapper also spoke positively about Charlie Wilson’s wife, Mahin Wilson. Reflecting on their early days together when Snoop was on Death Row Records and Charlie Wilson was undergoing rehabilitation, Snoop mentioned how Mahin was a counselor to Charlie Wilson.

He recalled an incident in the studio where Mahin insisted that nobody could smoke if Charlie Wilson was present. Initially resistant, Snoop and others dismissed her directive. However, Mahin later pulled Snoop aside for a heart-to-heart conversation.

“She pulled me to the side, and she talked to me like my mother — and I was always taught by my mother to respect women and respect your elders,” said Snoop. “She put so much respect on me that we didn’t smoke in the studio around Charlie Wilson when we were working.”

The collaboration between Snoop and Charlie Wilson began in 1996 with “The Doggfather” album, featuring the hit single “Snoop’s Upside Ya Head.” Their professional relationship continued over the years.

Snoop credited Charlie Wilson for teaching him showmanship, and business acumen, and instilling respect for family values.

“That’s the treasure to me. because when we get into this industry, we don’t really have people who we can count on, who we can go to. We get so far in this industry that you lose contact,” said Snoop.

“So, to have somebody like you to stay in my life and to be there for me and my family means the world to me, Charlie.”

Snoop married his high school girlfriend, Shante Taylor, on June 14, 1997. Over their 26-year marriage, the couple have faced challenges, including a split when Snoop fathered at least one child outside the marriage.

In April 2008, they renewed their vows in a ceremony at Charlie Wilson’s ranch near Los Angeles. Together, they have three children – daughter Cori (24) and sons Cordé (29) and Cordell (26). Snoop also has a son named Julian from an extramarital affair.
