Lauderhill’s dynamic Jamaican-American Mayor, Denise Grant, has been recognized for her exceptional leadership, earning a spot on Legacy Magazine’s 2025 list of Florida’s Most Influential & Prominent Black Women in Business and Industry.
This honor not only underscores her remarkable achievements but also reflects the solid trust and unwavering support of the Lauderhill community.
Mayor Grant, in accepting the recognition, expressed deep gratitude to all residents for entrusting her with the responsibility of leading the city, according to the South Florida Caribbean News.
Reflecting on her journey and the importance of community backing, she commented, “This honor shows that a commitment to public service, along with hard work and diligence, truly pays off.”

Mayor Grant attributed her accomplishment to her mother, acknowledging her steadfast support throughout her career.
“I thank God, the source of my existence, and thus dedicate this achievement to my mother, whose unwavering support has been important to my journey,” she said.
Inspired by other outstanding Black women recognized this year, Grant noted, “Their influence, leadership, and legacy are undeniable.”
Mayor Grant emphasized that the honor is a shared achievement, stating, “This recognition is not just about me; it’s about the City of Lauderhill and our collective efforts to drive innovation, advance equity, and create opportunities for future generations. I am proud to lead a city that embodies these values, and I look forward to continuing our work together to make Lauderhill shine.”
Mayor Grant’s leadership has been instrumental in driving significant progress in Lauderhill, notably enhancing public welfare, civic participation, and infrastructure.
Key achievements during her 2025 term include a significant allocation of nearly $1 million that was provided to assist seniors with their water bills, ensuring they could remain in their homes with dignity. A $100,000 investment was made to address food insecurity among the city’s most vulnerable residents.
An innovative program called Lauderhill University was introduced to educate high school students on local government operations and civic engagement. Programs were established under the “Tea Time with Seniors” Initiatives to promote education, wellness, and social connection for the senior population.
Other initiatives include advocating for significant infrastructure upgrades by submitting a multimillion-dollar appropriation request to the State Legislature in Tallahassee for enhancements in utilities, roads, lighting, and stormwater management. The Mayor’s Listening Tour conducts community conversations to gather input that directly informs the development of policies and programs.
Furthermore, public spaces are being enhanced through the Adopt a Park Initiative, a volunteer-driven effort focused on beautifying these areas and fostering community pride.
Additionally, Mentoring and Wellness programs are being implemented to support the growth and health of youths and student-athletes.
Finally, the Community Cleanup Program mobilized a large-scale community effort that brought together 1,000 residents and leaders on January 10, 2026, for a citywide cleanup.
These strides show her strong leadership skills. It also highlights her commitment to public service. Her achievements inspire the people of Lauderhill and Black women and community leaders across Florida.
