Authorities in Atlanta have arrested a suspect in connection with the theft of a hard drive containing Beyoncé’s unreleased music. But the stolen device is yet to be retrieved.
Per TMZ, the incident happened at a parking garage in July. The suspect, identified as Kelvin Evans, is said to have stolen the award-winning singer’s prized assets after he broke into an SUV.
Officers who responded to the scene at the time of the theft spoke with a choreographer and a dancer who are part of Beyoncé’s crew team. Dancer Diandre Blue and choreographer Christopher Grant told police that they had parked the black Jeep Wagoneer they had rented and entered a neighboring food hall. According to a police incident report, the rear window of the car had been shattered and two suitcases were gone when Blue and Grant got back, the BBC reported.
They told authorities that they were “carrying some personal sensitive information for the musician Beyoncé” in the stolen vehicle. Some of the stolen items from the rental car included “five jump drives containing watermarked music, unreleased music, footage plans for shows past and future, and set list,” according to a police report.
Other stolen things included a laptop, luxury apparel, and Apple AirPods. According to the police report, authorities used tracking information on the laptop and headphones to determine where they may have gone.
Since early albums like Dangerously In Love and 4 leaked illegally online before their release dates, the singer has reputedly worked carefully to prevent leaks in the second part of her solo career, according to the BBC.
Evans was booked into Atlanta’s Fulton County jail on charges of entering a vehicle with the intent to commit theft and a parole violation, the Atlanta Police Department said.
