The wife of a suspended Las Vegas cop and her sister told a court that being filmed naked in the bathroom by the officer is one they gladly agreed to.
43-year-old former Metropolitan Police Department Sgt. Kevin Menon has been accused of installing cameras in vents in his home bathroom that captured 28 videos of his wife Natasha Menon and her sister Tamara Russell naked.
On Wednesday during a hearing, 33-year-old Natasha and 26-year-old Tamara strongly stood behind the suspended Las Vegas cop, explaining that the clips he took of them were absolutely consensual, a Las Vegas Review-Journal report stated.
‘The allegations are false. I am absolutely not a victim. I feel victimized by the Clark County district attorney’s office and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department,’ Natasha said.
She revealed that she did not answer detectives when they came to her apartment and asked if she was the person depicted in the videos.
Kevin’s sister-in-law, Tamara, also left similar thoughts on the matter, saying the department was ‘making up a crime that did not happen.’
‘They left and decided to go ahead with making up a crime that did not happen,’ she said as she held up a sign that read ‘I don’t need a white savior, Hamner’ while clutching Kevin and her sister.
She seemingly made that sign to take a direct dig at Chief Deputy District Attorney Christopher Hamner, who is prosecuting the case.
Hamner said Kevin appears to have a ‘fetish’ and a ‘sickness,’ and claimed both his wife and sister-in-law were not aware they were being recorded.
Additional details on why the wife and her sister were filmed by the suspended Vegas cop are yet to be revealed.
‘That we’re not going to get into, but that’s our personal business and it has absolutely nothing to do with anything they’re alleging,’ Natasha said.
Hamner claimed other videos from Kevin’s laptop and cellphone showed that he also had a ‘fetish’ for urination-related pornography.
‘These crimes clearly reflect Defendant’s predisposition to abuse his power and exploit those most vulnerable in our society, including those people closest to him,’ Hamner said in the filing.
‘Defendant’s newest crimes make clear what the State has already argued to the courts: that there is simply no way a Court can effectively monitor Defendant in such a way that can prevent him from continuing to victimize people.’
The intriguing bit surrounding the case is that this is not the first time the police officer has been in trouble with the law in relation to sexual offenses.
He was previously accused of illegally detaining people on the Las Vegas Strip and possessing a dozen sexual photos of young girls.
In his first case, Kevin has been accused of using his power as a cop to make up scenarios that led to citizens, specifically black men, being arrested, as per 8 News Now.
At the time of the alleged crime, Kevin led a group of cops on the Strip. Body cam footage later revealed other officers dressed in uniform there while Kevin wore casual, civilian clothing, as per Daily Mail.
Detectives stated that they then seized his electronic devices and discovered child pornography, which led to a second criminal case against him, the outlet said.
The suspended Vegas cop’s response to his alleged illegal arrests was that he was trying to expose racism within the police department, court documents, reviewed by 8 News Now, showed.
Tamara has publicly expressed deep admiration for her brother-in-law, Sgt. Kevin Menon, calling him her “role model” in a family photo posted to social media.
“Kevin has been a part of my life since I was 10. He helped mold me into the confident, well-rounded young woman I am today,” she wrote, referencing their late mother in the photo.
In comments, she called him “the best person I’ve ever known” and condemned what she called a “horrendous injustice” by Las Vegas police and prosecutors.
Menon has pleaded not guilty to the filming allegations and a bail hearing is set for Monday while the trial reportedly begins on June 2.
