The 2024-2025 NFL season has the most Black minority team owners in NFL history including Serena and Venus

The 2024-2025 NFL season kicked off on Thursday, September 5, 2024, with the opening game being between the Baltimore Ravens and the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs pulled out a victory, scoring 27-20 against the Ravens, according to NFL.

The current NFL season has the highest number of black minority team owners ever. According to Diverse Representation, they include;

Venus and Serena Williams

Venus and Serena Williams are partial owners of the Miami Dolphins. They became the first black female African Americans to have shares in an NFL franchise.

The Miami Dolphins is reportedly worth $4.6 billion and ranked among “The World’s 50 Most Valuable Sports Teams 2015” list by Forbes.

Magic Johnson

Magic Johnson has multiple sports teams including the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team and the Los Angeles Sparks Women’s National Basketball Association team.

In the NFL, he has shares in Philadelphia 76ers, after participating in an ownership group led by Josh Harris, co-owner of the Philadelphia 76ers in a deal reportedly valued at $6.05 billion.

Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time Formula One champion and entrepreneur, is an investor in the NFL. In 2022, he invested in the Denver Broncos. “Excited to join an incredible group of owners and become a part of the @ Broncos story!! Honoured to work with a world class team and serve as an example of the value of more diverse leadership across all sports,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Mellody Hobson

Mellody Hobson is the co-CEO and president of Ariel Investments. She is also a Denver Broncos co-owner. She had joined the ownership group in June 2022 when its agreement to buy the team was valued at $4.65 billion.

Will Packer

Will Packer is a film producer who recently stepped into NFL ownership. He joined Rosalind Brewer, Rashaun Williams, and Dominique Dawes in the Atlanta Falcons’ ownership group in May 2024.

Others

Other black NFL team owners include Warrick Dunn (Atlanta Falcons); Eric Holoman (Washington Commanders); John Stallworth (Pittsburgh Steelers); and Condoleeza Rice (Denver Broncos.
