Rosa Parks
Rosa Louise McCauley Parks was the lead figure around whom the Montgomery bus boycott was conceived. In 1943, she became a member and later the Secretary of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), a civil rights society formed in 1909 to fight for justice for African Americans. Parks participated in many laudable civil rights campaigns. On December 1, 1955, she was arrested in Montgomery for refusing the seat vacation order from James F. Blake, the driver of the public bus she boarded.
