Mary Louise Smith

On October 21, 1955, at age 18, Mary Louise Ware ‘Smith’ was arrested in Montgomery for refusing to give up her seat for a White folk. Smith, Aurelia Browder, Claudette Colvin, and Susie McDonald were the four plaintiffs in the famous Browder v. Gayle lawsuit on bus segregation.
