When Zimbabwean MMA fighter Themba “The Answer” Gorimbo posted on social media his bank balance, stating that all he had to his name after his last fight in the UFC was only $7, little did he know that letting the world into his private life will bring his dreams to reality.
Gorimbo had been sleeping every night in the gym since he migrated to the U.S. to chase his MMA dream. The couch was his bed and it summed up the sacrifices he was making to live his dream one day. But this dream came quite early after WWE superstar Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson gifted him a fully furnished home in Miami, which drew the curtain on having to sleep at the MMA gym in Florida.
The former WWE champion said he was moved by Gorimbo’s story and decided to help the UFC fighter. In a Twitter post, Johnson said though he had never met Gorimbo before, he was moved by his burning passion to realize his dreams. He said he decided to fly to Miami to look Gorimbo in the eyes, shake his hands, and hug him. He added that despite the UFC fighter having only $7 in his account, he had the rage of a beast to win his fights.
When Gorimbo met Johnson, he broke down in tears. He was conducting an interview when the WWE former champion came to stand behind waiting to catch his attention. When Gorimbo spotted the People’s Champion, it was an emotional moment as his eyes welled up with tears.
But, that wasn’t all. Johnson presented the keys to a fully furnished apartment to him, capping the UFC fighter’s joy, as reported by sports brief.
Vibe reported that when Gorimbo won his recent UFC fight, he sold his match-worn gear for $7,000 and donated the money to his country, Zimbabwe, to enable it to have clean water and build a bush pump. As such, he had been struggling until Johnson’s surprise.
