Nyarugusu, Kigoma, Tanzania

With around 150,000 refugees, the Nyarugusu refugee camp was created by the UNHCR and the Tanzanian government in 1996 after about 150,000 Congolese refugees from the eastern Sud-Kivu region of the DRC crossed the border into Tanzania escaping the civil war. In 2015, the camp received thousands of refugees who were fleeing violence and unrest in Burundi.
A report by raptim.org says that the camp is severely overcrowded, hosting at least three times the population that it was built for.
