Yida, South Sudan

Located in wetland, 12 km from the border with Sudan, Yida is a settlement and refugee camp established by the Sudanese following conflicts between South Sudan and Sudan after the former gained independence in 2011. The camp hosts thousands of refugees, including many orphans and abandoned children who have settled there after escaping past conflicts in their areas of origin. In 2011 it had 20,000 people. This figure rose to 50,000 in 2012. The current population is over 70,000, according to raptim.org.
