Nyabinghi Cult
Based on the legend of queen Nyabinghi, a powerful queen who reigned in Eastern Africa. The Nyabinghi cult was established to keep the spirit of Queen Nyabinghi alive. The cult became a haven for many ancient Eastern African societies. Females were trained to preserve the character of the queen alive. Unlike many African societies that had men as traditional rulers and priests, the Nyabinghi cult only permitted that the traditional ruler was a woman and a priestess believed to be a reincarnation of Queen Nyabinghi living in chosen women spiritually. The cult grew to become a religion and later found its way in Jamaica which developed into the Rastafarian society. To date, no man is allowed to take the prominent role of the chief traditional ruler and priestess in parts of West Africa where the cult is still prominent.
