Tiger Woods has revealed he will not be playing in the Genesis Invitational, stating that he is ‘still processing’ his mother’s death which occurred last week.

According to reports, Woods has been left devastated after the passing of his mother, and though it appeared he was going to successfully feature at his golf tournament, he’s withdrawn from the competition due to his current emotional battles.

In a heartbreaking statement released on social media on Monday, Woods stated that though he planned to partake in the matchup, he is just not ready to get back to actively playing.

‘I planned to tee it up this week, but I’m just not ready.’ I did my best to prepare, knowing it’s what my Mom would have wanted, but I’m still processing her loss.’

‘Thanks to everyone who has reached out. I hope to be at Torrey later in the week and appreciate the continued kindness since my Mom’s passing.’

Last week, Tiger Woods announced the death of his mother, Kultida, aged 80, but the cause of her death is yet to be revealed.

Wood reportedly had a great relationship with his mother, who invested her support and time in seeing him become the ultimate golf sensation he is today.

Tiger Wood’s mother was present in Florida when the 49-year-old played in the TGL against Rory McIlroy on January 27.

On Super Bowl Sunday, Tiger Woods teamed up with President Donald Trump at the Trump International Golf Club in Palm Beach, Florida.

Woods was expected to head to San Diego in the coming days to begin the tournament on Thursday, but it now looks like he’s staying home in Florida for a little longer.

In June 2024, Tiger Woods paid an emotional tribute to his mother when he spoke after receiving the Bob Jones Award.

He was full of praise for his mother’s efforts in contributing to his growth, and her passing is definitely a big blow to himself and the Woods family.

‘My mom doesn’t get enough credit,’ he said, as she [his mom] looked on in the audience. ‘Everyone thought that it was my dad when I went on the road, which it was, but Mom was at home. If you don’t know, Mom has been there my entire life.’

‘This award, I accept it in humbleness and just unbelievable regard for the past recipients, but I also accept it for my mommy, too.’

‘She allowed me to get here. She allowed me to do these things, chase my dreams, and the support and love – I didn’t do this alone. I had the greatest rock that any child could possibly have: my mom. Thank you, Mommy.’
