Although touted to have the highest adult literacy levels in Africa, Zimbabwe had a 90 per cent literacy rate as of 2014. A 2017 Inter-Censal Demographic Survey showed that 12 per cent of the population between 3-24 years have never been to school. the higher and tertiary education, science and technology development minister Amon Murwira, also indicated that even with the high literacy levels, there is a huge gap in terms of skill level, which stands at 38 per cent.
