by Elizabeth Ofosuah Johnson, 5:00pm December 10, 2018,

2018 has been a good year for black entertainers especially in the movie industry. It sounds like a better year in 2019 with Beyonce’s huge role in the live-action release of Lion King, the announcement of actor Daniel Kaluuya and fast-rising actress Jodie Turner-Smith playing lead roles in the movie Queen and Slim, as well as Star Wars actor John Boyega and Black Panther actress Letitia Wright playing lead role lovers in the Sci-Fi movie, Hold Back the Stars.

Since October 2017, movie fanatics all over the world looked forward to a more diverse 2018 with more Black actors featuring in high budget films. All for the good of the ‘culture’ and diversity, movies like Black Panther and Oceans 8 were top of the list of must-watch movies of 2018.

Together with a huge support system and the black magic that seems to be working extremely well this year, many movies starring the best of the best of black entertainers broke world records and grossed millions of dollars. They have also set the tone for more high budget movies with black actors and actresses to be released in 2019.

Every year, the IMDb releases its list of top 50 movies and this year several movies featuring Black actors and actresses, found their way in the list. The IMDb is an online database of information related to films, television programs as well as other entertainment related materials. It has, since 1990, provided accurate information on movie grosses.

Here are the top five grossing movies that featured a good number of black actors and actresses in 2018.
