Ghana
In the whole of West Africa, Ghana is the most likely to experience earthquakes. The intensity of earthquakes ranges between moderate, very strong and destructive.
According to a report from the Geological Survey Department, Ghana has records of damaging earthquakes dating as far back as 1615, with the last three major events occurred in 1862, 1906 and 1939, hitting magnitudes of more than 6.o and causing the loss of lives. Aside from earthquakes, Ghana has frequent earth tremors with a magnitude between 1.0 to 4.8 of the Richter scale.
In more recent times, Ghana has experienced several earth tremors with the most recent being on December 9 when a tremor of magnitude between 3-3.5. According to an article on Citi Newsroom, a senior seismologist at the Ghana Geological Survey Authority earlier this year told the Daily Graphic that there could be an earthquake in the country, which was likely to be more severe than what was experienced in Accra in 1862 and 1939.
