Authorities in Uganda have launched an investigation after a man allegedly entered a Catholic church and defecated on a statue of Jesus Christ. Per Citizen Digital, Siaya County police commander Cleti Kimaiyo said the unidentified individual committed the alleged act at St. Andrew’s Bondo Catholic Church.
“The heinous act was reported at Bondo police station by the parish priest, Rev. Father Edwin Obudho,” Kimaiyo said, adding that the statue in question was also reported missing. “Upon reviewing the CCTV footage, it was established that a stranger who was dressed in a black and white striped shirt and black trousers entered the church hall when a few congregants were deep in prayer,” Kimaiyo stated.
The suspect is said to have hidden the statue in the church’s upper gallery before going to that area. “He then defecated on the statue before exiting the church. He hid the defaced statue underneath the pews,” police said.
