British-Ugandan actor and writer Daniel Kaluuya has been nominated for the 75th Golden Globe Awards for his Chris Washington role in the American horror movie “Get Out” premiered in February 2017.

This is a big deal for the young actor who made a mark on the big screen barely ten years ago in movies such as Johnny English Reborn, Kick-Ass 2 and Sicario.

Kaluuya’s nomination for the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy is his debut for one of Hollywood’s prestigious awards.

To win the Golden Globe, he has to beat Steve Carell, Ansel Elgort, James Franco and Hugh Jackman in the category which is strangely not linked to the $4.5 million budget horror movie directed by Jordan Peele.

Get Out was also nominated for the Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy category and it’s described as a likely contender for the award.

Released by Universal Pictures in February 2017, the movie earned good reviews from the National Board of Review and American Film Institute. It grossed $254 million worldwide.

Daniel Kaluuya’s nomination adds him to the list of several actors of African origin who had been nominated or had won a Golden Globe award. They include Lupita Nyongo’o, Idris Elba, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Uzo Aduba, Djimon Hounsou, David Oyelowo and Barkhad Abdi.
