Blue Ivy Carter isn’t the type to easily give in when there’s a bidding war. And the 10-year-old recently made that known when she offered to pay more than $80,000 for a pair of diamond earrings that her mother Beyoncé previously owned.
According to PEOPLE, the pair of Lorraine Schwartz diamond earrings Blue Ivy bid was put up for auction at the 2022 Wearable Art Gala on Saturday. The 10-year-old was in the company of her parents (Jay-Z and Beyoncé) at the event that was hosted by her grandmother, Tina Knowles.
A video of the moment Blue Ivy stood up to bid more than $80,000 on the earrings was shared on social media. In the footage, Blue’s grandmother is seen smiling at her after she stands up and waves her auction paddle. Other attendees at the event are also heard laughing.
Knowles was wearing the expensive earrings during the auction, and her granddaughter is said to have made the bid after her parents gave her the go-ahead. But the 10-year-old’s offer for the diamond earrings wasn’t the final as Monique Rodriguez and her husband Melvin outbid her. The Mielle Organics founder and her husband made a $105,000 bid on the earrings.

Blue Ivy has a history of trying to get her hands on items that have been put up for auction at the Wearable Art Gala. In 2018, she bid $17,000 on an acrylic painting of Sidney Poitier, Vanity Fair reported. And though Jay-Z made fun of the moment by attempting to take the auction paddle his then-6-year-old daughter was holding, the minor placed another bid after the price of the painting increased to $19,000. But Tyler Perry came out victorious after he bid $20,000 on the item.
She, however, eventually won the bid for a Samuel Levi Jones artwork that was also put up for auction. Blue, who is the second youngest Grammy award winner, bid $10,000 on the artwork.
In an interview with Hoda Kotb on Today, Perry touched on the “bidding war” with Blue Ivy. “Somebody else was bidding against me. I didn’t know who it was,” Perry told the host. “I look over and it’s her. She’s taking the paddle out of Jay’s hand and Beyoncé’s hand and she’s bidding.”
He added: “I’m like, this kid’s not outbidding me today. You gonna learn today, little girl. I’m getting this painting. But JAY-Z actually pretended to pull it out of her hand and stop her bidding. But it was for charity so it was for a great cause.”
