Watch how the Nation of Islam honored Nipsey Hussle at his Marathon store

The Nation of Islam on Monday honored slain rapper Nipsey Hussle in front of his Marathon clothing store with a very solemn tribute and the laying of a wreath. “We are here to dedicate this time and moment to one of our great prince, a king, a general,” said Minister Tony Muhammad.

“We want their family to know that the Nation of Islam, we embrace this family and extended family. We are a part of his hood. We love every black man and woman, every brown man and woman no matter what your state in life is.”

“The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan sends his love and his condolences, that from this day forward our prayer is that God have used a human being that can unite the black man and the brown man like we’ve never been united before,” he added.

“Let us stop all gang wars in the name of Nipsey Hussle. Let us stop all black on black crime, black on brown crime, brown on brown crime. Let us do this in the name of Nipsey Hussle.”

Born Ermias Davidson Asghedom, the 33-year-old rapper was fatally shot in front of his Marathon Clothing store at 3420 W. Slauson Ave. in South Los Angeles on Sunday, March 31. He is survived by a daughter from a previous relationship and a son with whom he has with actress and girlfriend Lauren London.

The suspected gunman, 29-year-old Eric Holder, was eventually arrested on Tuesday, March 2. He was charged with one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon on Thursday, March 4. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges, according to The New York Times.

The son of an Eritrean immigrant and an African-American mother, Nipsey was on course to have a stellar year riding off the success of his 2018 Grammy-nominated Victory Lap album after being underground and independent for so long.

Outside music, the rapper was widely known for his philanthropic works and entrepreneurial savviness, owning several businesses along the block he was shot. He also never stopped short of empowering the youth through various community outreach programs and helping residents in need whenever he could.

His memorial is set to take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Thursday, April 11.

Take a look at the moving tributes the Nation of Islam paid him:
